ఇది తెలంగాణవాదులు ముచ్చట పడుతున్న ఓ తెల్ల గున్న ఏనుగు కథ. తెలంగాణవాద ఇంజినీర్ల అద్భుత మేధోశక్తి కథ. పైనున్న పట్టికలో అంశాలు చూసి నిర్ణయించండి ఎందుకు ప్రాణహిత-చేవెళ్ళ తెల్లగున్న ఏనుగో! కేవలం ఒక ఎకరానికి నీరివ్వటానికి చేసే ఖర్చు రూ. 15000. అదే వ్యయంతో తీరాంధ్రలో ఒక అరఎకరా (వరి) పూర్తి వ్యవసాయం జరుగుతుంది. ఇందులో 3000 మెగావాట్ల విద్యుత్ రాబట్టటానికి పెట్టాల్సిన పెట్టుబడులెన్ని? హీనపక్షం 5000కోట్లు/500 మెగావాట్లు అనుకున్నా 30000కోట్ల పెట్టుబడి కేవలం ఆ ప్రాజెక్ట్టుకు అవసరమైన విద్యుత్ అందించటానికి పెట్టాలి! రమారమి 80000కోట్ల పెట్టుబడి పెట్టి సాధించేది 16లక్షల ఎకరాల వ్యవసాయం! వరుసగా నాలుగేళ్ళు కరువు వచ్చిందనుకోండి ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థ (ఏర్పడితే తెలంగాణది) ఎంచక్కా పాతాళములో పక్కవేసుకుని గుర్రుపెట్టి నిద్రపోవచ్చు.

What is required is desisting from such large scale projects fraught with several evil consequences and concentrate on minor and medium irrigation. Especially intense work of renovation of old tanks and maintenance of tanks and stopping encroachments and filling up of lakes, excavation of new tanks and increasing the ground water table by eco-friendly water harvesting arrangements, etc. which by the way need only smaller sums of money compared to the white elephants referred to. Polavaram project with the present design should also be scrapped and three barrages system introduced instead which will ensure minimum inundation and maximum benefit. We all have to learn from Rajendra Singh of Rajasthan who by his eco-friendly traditional water management methods had succeeded even in reviving an old dried up river!
