The rebel leaders of Congress party, Mr. YS Jaganmohan Reddy and his mother were treated as heroes of Kadapa after resignation for MP and MLA posts. These two people contested on YSR Congress Party ticket and the people of Kadapa elected them with thumping majority. Of course, there are allegations by opposition parties of Congress and Telugu Desam that Jaganmohan Reddy spent crores of rupees to woo the Kadapa voters, but who paid the expenditure for conducting the bye-elections of Kadapa? Is it a cheap affair? The government had to pay crores of rupees to conduct the bye-elections. It is the public money spent on the bye-elections. Why the bye-elections are imposed on the common people? It is just for the sake of Jagan’s non-committal stance to resign from the post.
Now nearly, 100+ representatives resigned for their posts, which are yet to be accepted by both speakers of Assembly and Lok Sabha. These peoples’ self-consciousness suddenly aroused towards formation of Telangana issue and instantaneously resigned from the posts without second thought. Who is responsible for the state of current resignations? The over jealous leader of TRS party Mr.KCR and the mindless followers in the shape of student unions and other unions are responsible for the irresponsible behaviour of Telangana leaders and the result is resignations. If their resignations are accepted, there would be either mid-term elections or bye-elections for those posts. Now, the Seema Andhra students union and other various unions are also pressurizing their representatives to resign from the MP and MLA posts. These agitators, politicians and other supporters are feeling that resigning is a child’s play and bye-elections are a game. What a pity?
Nowadays, the leaders are also fancy to resign from their positions and contest in the bye-elections. They do not bother about the government exchequer for conducting the bye-elections. Of course, if any MP or MLA is demised, it is necessary to fill the vacuum of that representative by conducting bye-elections.
The MLAs and MPs resign from their posts to accept the challenge by opponents or if they have any grievance with their parental party or to join other party from their elected party etc. This type of resignations must be controlled forever. Can’t we control these politicians and their followers to resign and contest again and again with the old party ticket or some other new party ticket?
There is a solution for this problem. The Parliament must pass a Bill to control the defections and bye-elections. The Parliament should pass the Bill if any Member of Parliament or Assembly resigns from the current position, whatever the reason be, should be disqualified including the relatives and close aids along with friends etc. for at least 25 years to contest in any type of elections. If at all the resigned person or their kith wants to contest in the elections after 25 years, the expenditure of conducting the election should be borne by the candidate. This is the only remedy to control the self-styled resignations; otherwise, these politicians always play with the public money.
